On 5 August 2026, the Australian Academy of Law held a panel seminar on the topic ‘Legislative Complexity: Causes, Problems, Solutions’ in light of the increasing volume and complex nature of our laws and what is said to be their undue impact on personal and business activities.

The panel discussed the legislative process, the demands upon those drafting our laws, what input and pressures go into their content and reach, and what answers there might be to the concerns raised.

This volume is an edited and referenced transcript of the proceedings.
