Membership Categories

Admission to membership is detailed in the Constitution and is limited to around 400 members, in line with the other learned academies in Australia, and includes: Fellows, Life Fellows and Honorary Fellows.

Individuals are invited to become Fellows by the Directors on the basis of their exceptional distinction in the discipline of law and their demonstrable commitment to the objects of the Academy.

Life Fellows are those who have been Fellows for at least 15 years.

Honorary Fellows are those Fellows, not ordinarily resident in Australia, who meet the criteria for Fellow and are invited by the Directors to become Honorary Fellows.
